Policies

(1) Renew the spirituality and way of life of the Church in Thailand through a total self-conversion so that all shall have an interior life of prayer and contemplation, simple style of living, evangelizing, being witnesses to Christ and proclaiming the Good News of salvation in a practical manner, which will lead them to the explicit proclamation of Christ.

(2) Conscientize all people to commit themselves to promote, support, assist and protect human rights and dignity, especially those of women, youth, orphans, the elders, the sick, the disabled, laborers, sex workers, the poor, the less fortunate, migrant workers, refugees, prisoners, farmers, ethnic peoples, etc.

(3) Foster ongoing study of and reflection on the social doctrine of the Church by members of the Church at every level; develop a learning process for priests, the religious and the laity in order that our pastoral ministry may be carried out in response to the real social situation, promote and develop the dignity of all as human persons created in the image of God.

(4) Organize programs of study and reflection on religious and cultural values found in local traditions and indigenous wisdom of the local people and of the nation as a whole, through the process of a dialogue of life in a holistic manner. This will promote an inculturation of the Good News and help the members of the Church in Thailand to understand, accept and apply these universal values in their daily life.

(5) Promote and encourage Christian families to be ‘domestic churches' which appreciate and protect the value of life, renew the good values of the Thai family, and encourage these families to join together in forming a Christian community which is enriched by the Word of God and the sacraments, while at the same time building up and strengthening the local community.

(6) Take steps to prepare our educational institutions as the place for evangelization by giving a solid formation and fostering a way of life according to the spirit of Christ for all our students, youth and all who are related to our institutions. The education we give should be a process that promotes the dignity of the human person, fosters ethical and moral values as well as peace in society in accordance with the democratic system. Our educational institutions should give top priority to Catholic students and those who are poor. They should facilitate practical cooperation among the home, the Church, the educational institutions and the local community in order that every institution and organization will truly be a place of evangelization.

(7) Provide an opportunity for all lay people, especially women, youth and children, to play their roles in the mission of the Church according to their capacities; they should be given a share in every stage and at every level in the work of the Church, concretely based on the principle of equality.

(8) Promote inter-religious dialogue at all levels to foster mutual learning and sharing with one another on the basis of mutual respect and cooperation in building up a just, peaceful and fraternal society.

(9) Urgently renew the missionary spirit; promote and encourage each member of the Church to cooperate in living and promoting the Kingdom values, in proclaiming the Good News of Salvation and in proclaiming Jesus Christ to the various groups and peoples in Thai society.

(10) Support the production of various means of communication and use them in an efficient manner in every area of ministry, particularly in the work of evangelization and in promoting the value of life and the dignity of the human person as well as building up a network within the Church at every level so that experiences as well as useful information may be shared.

(11) Urgently recruit and develop capable Church personnel at every level in a systematic and ongoing manner, and provide them with fair and relevant remuneration and social benefits. Church institutions at all levels are to be strongly encouraged to share personnel, material resources and funds for the work of the Church as a whole.

(12) Set up clearly defined commissions and offices in order to ensure that this Pastoral Plan will be implemented efficiently and fruitfully, and to ensure the cooperation of all. These commissions should formulate a time table for systematic and ongoing planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of this plan.

51 These practical policies are very important and urgently needed by the Church. The Vision, Mission, Principles and Practical Policies enunciated here are the essence of the work of the Church. They must be seriously implemented in an ongoing process according to the Plans of Action which each Church organization should define and present in her action plan.
